The
term "gadget" has become an iconic symbol of the last decades and it
stands for a lot of the latest inventions that feed our hunger for smart devices.
Smart
phones and watches, tablets and e-books, digital cameras and fitness trackers,
smart kitchen appliances and vacuum-cleaning robots — the list of gadgets is
really endless and it continues to be updated nearly every week! The key issue
of their popularity is the fact that they make our life drastically different —
they help to cope with all daily routines like household chores almost without
any difficulties.
A
big amount of data can be stored in electronic format with via intellectual
machines. Thus, documents, presentations, reports, books, computer games, songs
and movies do not need any paper, packages, shelves and special premises. A
tiny gadget is an indispensable thing for travelling and business trips.
Moreover, cloud technologies make it possible to store and manage millions of
documents in a very efficient way. Traditional businesses are getting more
virtualized and their profitability and safety steady increase.
Furthermore,
social networks, chats and messengers provide instant communication and files
exchange all over the world. Virtual world allows users share their ideas
through blogs, speak and see each other via video chats and create business
platforms to make money.
In
addition, all civilized people become accustomed to making purchases of goods
and services with the help of computers and gadgets. They buy clothes in the
internet shops, reserve hotels and book tickets on the specialized websites,
receive money for doing some job on the Internet platforms. All that can be
done at home from a desktop computer or in a café from a laptop, smartphone or
tablet. All these gadgets are affordable for a big number of people on the
planet. Internet services are mainly unified and easy for use.
Undoubtedly,
the most amazing thing that influences our way of life greatly is a smartphone.
This compact device is not only a wonderful accessible way of communication; it
is also an organizer, a game device, a media center, a camera, a health
monitor, and what not. Being able to get all the options just on the go means
to have a new level of freedom — without limits and restrictions. But this
freedom is also a great responsibility, because our life is not only rainbows
and butterflies. Mobile applications offer such interactive services as a
virtual secretary, navigator, and voice translator. They are supportive in
getting the necessary information in real time. Tourists can easily find a
location of the nearest restaurant, shopping center or museum on the
interactive map. They can also follow their way using the on-line navigator.
Simple phrases are immediately translated in a language of the visited country
and that may be crucial in avoiding misunderstandings. Voice reminders that
come from a smartphone make life more organized and even safe.
Gadgets
are also considered to be one of the greatest threats of the modern society.
People become addicted to their devices and spend more and more time doing
selfies, purposelessly surfing the web, or playing the latest games. Gadget
addiction steals lots of our time and can make us depressed and exhausted.
Despite the boost in communication area people spend less time together and often
experience some sort of loneliness. Moreover, mobile information technologies
and broad Internet coverage make people reachable in any place and any hour of
the day. In some cases, they have to answer calls, emails and messages while
staying with family, going shopping or doing sports. It may cause quarrels,
misunderstandings exhaustion and even nervous breakdown. Maybe we should
sometimes have a day off from gadgets — without any kinds of modern devices
enjoying time with our nearest and dearest or just watching the clouds passing
by?
We
could definitely live without newest gadgets, no question about that. I have a
couple of bad habits related to technology (such as constantly checking my
emails, news feed and chat messages) I could do without, too, and I find that
spending too much time online and restlessly switching between different
websites and applications negatively affects my focus and efficiency.
However,
benefits coming from clever machines are obvious in all spheres of life. Nearly
all people like comfort and modern conveniences and can hardly imagine their
life without them.
Then
again the gadgets make my life easier in lots of ways. I love having an
interactive map on me at all times as I am fairly bad with directions. Being
able to contact people almost immediately no matter where I am is handy, too. I
live very far away from my parents and the gadgets make it possible to have a
video chat with them whenever we feel like it. I try not to waste my time
browsing the Internet without any particular reason; I got rid of that
addiction.
To
sum up, gadgets definitely make people’s life tense and hectic. But we should
move with time and wisely take advantage of everything that makes our life more
comfortable and easier. Modern world cannot be efficient without all these
conveniences.
